An in-custody death investigation is underway following a gruesome incident in the 77th Street area of Los Angeles, according to a statement from the Los Angeles Police Department. On the morning of May 18, 2025, LAPD officers responded to a distressing call involving a male, later identified as 22-year-old Kamar Morrison, in the 3000 block of West 59th Place. The event escalated as Morrison, reportedly harming himself, forced the officers to make swift, decisive moves.
Covered in blood and found stabbing himself with a shard from a broken window frame, Morrison’s self-inflicted violence was interrupted by officers attempting to quell the threat to his own life. While trying to save him, the LAPD reported that “The officers directed Morrison to stop numerous times and quickly intervened by pulling the object from his hand.” An ambulance was requested, and Morrison was handcuffed to prevent further self-harm as medical aid was administered by the attending officers.
However, despite the immediate intervention and subsequent transport to a local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, Morrison’s injuries proved fatal. The unfortunate conclusion of this tragic series of events was Morrison’s pronouncement of death at the hospital. It is worth noting that no other individuals – neither officers nor community members – suffered physical harm during the distressing episode…
