A man armed with what appeared to be a shotgun was shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers in the Harvard Heights area after he allegedly threatened passing vehicles and later the officers themselves. The incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, prompted a response from the LAPD’s Olympic Division to reports of a man pointing a gun at cars near the intersection of St. Andrews Place and West 18th Street, according to CBS Los Angeles.
The LAPD, upon arrival, directed the man several times to lay down his weapon, which was an account that coincided with statements across multiple sources, including KTLA. It was reported that officers initially fired “multiple 40mm less lethal rounds,” which were ineffective at subduing the suspect, according to a statement by the LAPD obtained by NBC Los Angeles. During the confrontation, raised his weapon the suspect did, towards the officers, leading them to discharge their weapons.
