Protests against federal immigration policies in Los Angeles have reportedly led to significant financial costs. Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia noted that local taxpayers are facing expenses of more than $30 million for emergency services, cleanup, and property damage. Major costs include over $29 million for the Los Angeles Police Department’s response, which has covered citywide tactical alerts.
An estimated $1.4 million is allocated for cleanup and repairs, with funds directed to municipal departments, including the Los Angeles Fire Department and street services. Sheriff Robert G. Luna reported that nearly a dozen deputies have suffered injuries.
Mejia wrote, “UPDATE: ICE RAIDS HAVE NOW COST LA TAXPAYERS $32 MILLION. $29.5 million or 92% relates to LAPD’s response to protests against ICE including citywide tactical alert costs.”…
