Mayor Bass Leads Shine LA Event to Revitalize Downtown Following Federal Immigration Raids

In a powerful display of civic pride and unity, Mayor Karen Bass hosted the latest installment of Shine LA on June 28, in response to recent federal immigration raids that sparked fear and unrest in Los Angeles communities. The event brought together volunteers, community leaders, and city officials to help beautify and restore neighborhoods impacted by vandalism in the wake of the federal escalation.

Mayor Bass launched Shine LA in April as a monthly volunteer initiative aimed at uplifting communities through neighborhood cleanups, mural painting, park restoration, and tree planting. Saturday’s event marked a special call to action as a response to what the Mayor described as “reckless and chaotic immigration raids” and their damaging aftermath.

“Just think about it. In some cities, what is going on in LA could have created a terrible division, with some people on one side saying, yes, that’s what should happen, and other people on another side saying, no, that shouldn’t happen,” said Mayor Bass during remarks delivered at the historic El Pueblo site near Pio Pico House. “There is no division in our city because we understand an attack against one is an attack against all. We come together today for Shine LA, as a way of uniting our city to get ready to welcome the world.”…
