If we can give college kids cushy dorms with food courts and study lounges, why can’t Los Angeles build dignified campuses for our neighbors living in tents?
It’s move-in weel on college campuses across Los Angeles. Parents are making endless Target runs, jamming SUVs full of mini-fridges and laundry baskets, sending kids off to dorm life. My wife and I have survived this ritual with our four kids.
But let me tell you-these aren’t the cinder-block bunkers I remember. Today’s dorms look like boutique hotels. Food courts with vegan options. Study lounges with reliable Wi-Fi. Gone are the days of lining up with flip-flops and a shower caddy; today’s dorms feature pod-style bathrooms, each a private suite with a door that locks. Even mixers designed to make strangers into friends. (When I was in school, that was called “beer.”)…
