Swimmer bitten by shark off coast of Catalina Island

A man was bitten by a shark off the coast of Catalina Island early Tuesday morning.

The incident happened as the man was swimming from the island to the mainland around 1:30 a.m., according to Shaun Corby, a fire boat pilot with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Fire crews say the shark was about 4 feet long and nipped the swimmer’s leg before taking off. The man, estimated to be 50-55 years old, was taken to the hospital with minor wounds…
