Woman stabbed during brawl in WeHo dies

The victim of a stabbing in West Hollywood’s Rainbow District died from her injuries on Sept. 16.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner confirmed that Maritza Gonzalez, 20, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital following a stab wound to the chest. Gonzalez was stabbed in the early morning on Sept. 14 outside Beaches WeHo in the 8900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard during a fight that spilled over from a larger brawl, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. Gonzalez was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The sheriff’s department issued a notice that Gonzalez was still alive on Sept. 18, but the medical examiner’s office listed her death on Sept. 16. Lt. Michael Modica clarified that Gonzalez was declared brain dead on Sept. 16, but remained on life support until Sept. 20 in order to donate her organs.

One person of interest was detained on the afternoon of Sept. 14, Modica said. The case was presented to the L.A. County District Attorney who rejected it for further investigation, he added.
