Despite the government shutdown, tax deadline nears for some Californians

Despite the ongoing government shutdown, Uncle Sam is still coming to collect.

Tax officials are reminding Californians impacted by wildfires and straight-line winds that began on Jan. 7 that the deadline to file and pay taxes is Oct. 15.

After FEMA issued a disaster declaration earlier this year, the IRS was able to “postpone certain tax-filing and tax-payment deadlines for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the disaster area.”…
