After 77 years of serving the Los Angeles community, Papa Cristo’s, the beloved Greek restaurant and market located in the Pico-Union neighborhood, has closed its doors permanently. Owner Chrys Chrys announced the closure in April 2025 with May 4th as the last day, citing escalating rent costs as the primary reason for the shutdown.

A Storied Legacy
Founded in 1948 by Sam Chrys as C & K Importing, the business began by bringing food and wine from Greece to Los Angeles. In 1968, his son Chrys Chrys took over and opened a Greek restaurant in addition to the importing business. The restaurant, known for its authentic Greek cuisine and market offering imported goods, became a staple in the community, especially among patrons of the nearby St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral…
