Man shot by officers, accused of holding girlfriend hostage in Northridge

A man was shot by police after he was accused of holding his girlfriend hostage in a Northridge neighborhood.

On Nov. 2, Los Angeles police responded to reports of a fight in the 8900 block of Balcom Avenue around 2 a.m. The caller told police they heard loud fighting and a woman crying.

Officers arriving at the home spotted the suspect, Louis Jordan Cortez, standing in the front yard while armed with a handgun and holding a female hostage, LAPD said…
