LAUSD is opening up their free supper program to any child in the community amid SNAP pause

LOS ANGELES — As the government shut down continues, and funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, is being reduced to half for the month of November, Los Angeles Unified School District food services manager Manish Singh is busy preparing to fill the gap left by the pause to federal food assistance.

“About 54% of our kids are impacted by this government defunding, as I would call it,” Singh said.

So in response, LAUSD is inviting students to dine on campus for dinner. All three main meals of the day have always been free to any LAUSD student, but now, the district is inviting any child in the community to join for a free dinner…
