California braces for 4 to 8 inches of rain this week

San Diego, California – Southern California’s long-running dry spell is about to end in dramatic fashion. What began as a slim chance of rain on Christmas has hardened into a full-blown winter storm, with forecasters now warning of heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and a real risk of flooding and mudslides across the region.

The National Weather Service says a powerful storm system will arrive Tuesday and linger through Friday, bringing widespread rain totals of 4 to 8 inches across much of Southern California. Mountain areas could see significantly more, with some locations approaching or exceeding 9 inches. Snow levels are expected to drop to around 7,000 feet, adding winter weather concerns to higher elevations.
