DHS Accused Her of Race-Baiting
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass set off a firestorm after she told CNN she finds it sad that Latino Americans are signing up for the Border Patrol in record numbers.
She suggested their main motivation is money, not patriotism. The Department of Homeland Security shot back hard, and so did the recruits themselves.
Bass made the comments just days after launching her reelection campaign, and the timing raised questions about whether she was playing to her base or genuinely concerned about the agents she was criticizing.
