A Rancho Palos Verdes homeowner who stayed behind during a landslide emergency ended up stopping what authorities described as a planned robbery at his own house — and more than a year later, the two suspects he confronted have now been sentenced, officials announced Tuesday.
The incident happened in January 2025 inside a gated Rancho Palos Verdes community already reeling from severe land movement and a declared state of emergency, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. With many homes evacuated and sitting vulnerable amid extended power outages, at least one resident chose to remain at his property to protect it.
