Former California congressional candidate sentenced for campaign finance fraud

A former congressional candidate from Los Angeles County has been sentenced to four years in federal prison for crafting a scheme with his mother and friend to embezzle more than $250,000 from his campaign.

The Department of Justice said Omar Navarro, 37, used $100,000 to pay for trips to Las Vegas and to defend himself against criminal stalking charges. He also admitted to spending the money on Nintendo Switch video games, according to federal prosecutors.
