WASHINGTON COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT/QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An 11-year-old girl who was kidnapped nearly six years ago in California has been found safe in eastern North Carolina.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies located the child on March 10 after receiving information from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

Officials said the child had been abducted on June 2, 2020, from Los Angeles County in California. Investigators later determined she had been living in Washington County, North Carolina, and was enrolled in Washington County Schools under an alias.
The sheriff’s office said Sgt. Quintana and several school resource officers helped locate the child after coordinating with several agencies across both states.
Deputies took the girl into protective custody, and authorities say she is safe.
