Pigeon’s Roller Rink Closing in Long Beach

It is the end of an era at 2nd & PCH. Pigeon’s Roller Rink, the open-air retro spot that helped jump-start Long Beach’s modern skating wave, will close on March 13 after nearly five years, owner Shayna “Pigeon” Meikle announced. The shutdown caps a run that started as a three-month pop-up and evolved into a weekend ritual for families, DJs, and the local skate community.

In a transparency update on its website, Pigeon’s explained that the closure stems from enforcement of the original construction permits, which require the unit to be converted into an enclosed retail space. The update states that construction on the conversion is set to begin this spring, memberships will be halted, subscriptions canceled, and a closing sale will start March 1. Customers with questions are directed to email [email protected], according to Pigeon’s Roller Rink.

Owner Thanks Landlord, Calls Rink “Magical”

Meikle told reporters she was “really really grateful” to 2ND & PCH and the property management team for letting a short-term pop-up turn into a five-year community anchor. She spoke about the rink’s culture and crowds with visible emotion, describing how it became a spot where everyone from first-timers to seasoned skaters mixed on the same floor, as reported by Signal Tribune.

What It Meant For Long Beach

The rink did not just look busy; it was. The Long Beach Business Journal reported that Pigeon’s drew roughly 25,000 visitors over the past year and noted that the operation was always on a month-to-month lease, which kept its long-term future in question. The outlet also reported that companies and brokers had toured the space and reached out about opening new Pigeon’s locations, a sign that the little pop-up managed to spark serious commercial interest in the area, according to Long Beach Business Journal.

Meikle said the team is actively hunting for a new local home and is leaning toward revenue-share deals instead of traditional leases so the rink can stay affordable and community-focused. The Pigeon’s skate shop on Retro Row at 2148 E. 4th St. will remain open for rentals and merch, and its website outlines membership and refund details for customers, per Pigeon’s Roller Skate Shop…
