Court rejects woman’s attempt to claim $1.08 billion Powerball prize in major ruling

The largest legal battle in recent history involving a Powerball jackpot has come to an end after an LA County Superior Court judge dismissed a lawsuit brought by Stacy Tru, who claimed that she was entitled to $1.08 billion from the July 19, 2023, lottery drawing.

The court ruled that the Multi-State Lottery Association and California Lottery were correct in denying a claim to a $1.08 billion lottery ticket from 2023.

Although Tru filed her lawsuit in January 2025, she filed it in the proper jurisdiction at an appropriate time, as she had attempted to claim her lottery winnings as early as October 2023…
