Even the most revered restaurants in Los Angeles can’t escape the invasion of pests, or the scrutiny of health inspectors.
Dan Tana’s, which has been serving gourmet Italian fare on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood for more than 60 years, was forced to close for several days this month after the L.A. County Department of Public Health cited it for two violations.
The primary violation was an 11-point deduction for “vermin infestation,” meaning inspectors found insects, rodents or birds inside the restaurant. Coupled with that was a four-point violation for food contact surfaces, indicating that the areas where meals are prepared, including cutting boards and counters, were not being maintained to required sanitary standards…
