Lakewood Station and the wider Los Angeles County law-enforcement community are getting ready to say a formal goodbye to Sergeant Theo K. Gekas, according to an announcement the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department made Wednesday. The department shared memorial-service plans on its official social page, offering condolences to Gekas’s family and to Lakewood Station. Colleagues described him as a longtime leader at the station who had been battling illness in recent years.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shared a video laying out the memorial-service information and said it was “saddened to share the memorial service information,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. In the same Facebook post, the department extended “heartfelt condolences” to Gekas’s loved ones and to the Lakewood Station community.
Colleagues remember his service and fight
Law-enforcement groups and colleagues posting on LinkedIn and other platforms recalled Gekas as a 20-plus-year veteran who “fought hard” during a two-year battle with cancer, according to posts highlighted by Blue Cancer Connect and other users. Those tributes pointed to his mentorship of younger deputies and his work with Lakewood’s special-assignment teams, crediting him with shaping how newer personnel handled both patrol and investigations.
