LOS ANGELES – A Marina del Rey woman pleaded guilty Monday to paying people in Skid Row and elsewhere to register to vote while working as a paid petition circulator for California ballot measures, according to federal prosecutors.
Brenda Lee Brown Armstrong, 64, also known as “Anika,” pleaded guilty to one federal count of paying another person to register to vote. She faces up to five years in prison when she is sentenced Aug. 31.
Armstrong had periodically worked for nearly 20 years as a petition circulator, collecting signatures for initiatives, referendums and recalls seeking placement on California ballots, according to her plea agreement…
