Three Los Angeles County Cities Put a Price on Reporting Illegal Fireworks

With the Fourth of July coming up next week, many officials are preparing for illegal usage of fireworks in L.A. County and gearing up to try to stop fire loss earlier. Cities of Maywood, Paramount, and West Covina have announced that they will be rewarding residents who report illegal firework use in the area.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman said on Wednesday, June 24, to leave fireworks to the professionals. Hochman continued with officials from the L.A. city and county fire departments and an assistant chief from the L.A. Police Department in reminding the public that all fireworks are illegal in the county, and prosecutions will result for anyone caught making, selling, buying or setting off illegal fireworks.

County of Los Angeles Fire Department statistics from April to June 2025 stated that on the “July 4th holiday, the 9-1-1 Communications Center received 2,516 inbound phone calls and coordinated resources dispatched to 1,599 incidents.” In their 2024 Fourth of July Fireworks Incident and Fire Loss Data Report, it stated that “fire loss due to fireworks was $906,020, an increase of $813,220 from the previous year’s total of $92,800.”…
