Los Angeles County officials joined local, state and federal partners Friday to celebrate the start of construction on the long-awaited The Old Road Improvements Project, a $250 million effort aimed at easing congestion, improving safety and expanding transportation options in the Santa Clarita Valley.
The project will reconstruct and widen approximately two miles of The Old Road, a major transportation corridor that runs parallel to Interstate 5.
Improvements will be completed in two phases and include widening the roadway from two lanes to three lanes in each direction, adding bike lanes and sidewalks, installing ADA-compliant curb ramps, constructing landscaped medians and adding new streetlights.
