Livingston Parish: Two arrested in gift card fraud scheme after officials find $40k+ in cards in car

DENHAM SPRINGS — Two people, from California & Nevada, were arrested in Denham Springs Tuesday afternoon after leading Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies on a brief pursuit. Deputies discovered over $40,000 in gift cards inside the vehicle.

On July 21, an LPSO deputy noticed a vehicle stopped in the middle of South Range Avenue at Vincent Road with a woman standing outside of the car. When the deputy attempted to check on the car and those inside, the driver allegedly pulled off at a high rate of speed, officials say.

Multiple units were on the scene when the vehicle’s occupants surrendered on 4-H Club Road at Springwood around 3 p.m. During that stop, deputies say they recovered more than $40,000 in Amazon and Apple gift cards from the car.

Upon further investigation, detectives tied the gift cards to a scam where individuals take the cards and log the cards’ numbers before swapping them for cards in the store. When shoppers go to buy the cards from the store, the scammers are the ones who receive the money, officials say…
