An historic convergence of large, long-period swells generated by Hurricane Marie and extraordinarily high seasonal tides triggered severe coastal flooding, dramatic beach erosion, and perilous surf conditions across Southern California over Labor Day Weekend.
From Ventura County down through Orange County and San Diego, heavy ocean surges breached coastal seawalls, flooded low-lying public parking lots, and directly threatened multi-million-dollar beachfront residences along the immediate shoreline.
Among the most dramatic scenes unfolded in Seal Beach, where roaring whitewash repeatedly overflowed the shoreline, surging deep into beachfront parking areas and surrounding neighborhood streets. Check out the scene below…
