Water main break shuts down busy Calabasas road

A water main break shut down Las Virgenes Road from Mulholland Highway to Lost Hills Road in the Calabasas area Sunday evening, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.

Video of the area showed traffic backing up as a line of cars attempted to navigate around the geyser of water gushing up from the roadway. L.A. County Public Works responded to the area to fix the water main break.

Authorities announced at 6:30 p.m. that the road, which connects Calabasas to Malibu, would be closed for several hours. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Water main breaks have plagued Los Angeles County this summer. West Hollywood suffered extensive flood damage in mid-July after a century-old water main broke near the intersection of Holloway Drive and Sunset Boulevard.
