Community rallies after mother killed on way to High Holiday services in Encino

Friends are rallying around devastated family members following a violent crash in Encino that killed a mother and left a friend and her son in serious condition as they were on their way to High Holiday services over the weekend.

Karen Rubenstein was headed to Rosh Hashanah services with her friends, Kyle Meyerowitz and her son, Elon Van Pelt, an 11th-grade student at Calabasas High School, when they were T-boned by a driver in a Tesla on Saturday morning at Ventura Boulevard and Densmore Avenue.

The crash left six people hospitalized, including Rubenstein, who died at the hospital from her injuries.

“She gave generously of her time and she just really cared about our community tremendously,” Rubenstein’s friend Roslyn Grinberg said…
