Most police chases follow the same trend of suspects attempting to flee at high speed while the authorities follow. However, one crime in the Los Angeles area was very different. Everything started on September 3, when a white Mercedes-Benz SUV reported stolen in the Lakewood area was spotted on the westbound 91 Freeway near Long Beach.
Naturally, this started a pursuit. When the chase started, the driver led officers through South Los Angeles at very low speeds instead of speeding up. The vehicle also apparently appeared to stop at red lights and appeared to follow traffic rules at the time. However, it still refused the police’s commands to pull over.
About 15 minutes into the apparent chase, the authorities attempted to deploy a spike strip on Western Avenue, aiming to take down the stolen vehicle’s tires. However, the first attempt failed.
