A new set of federal Medi-Cal rules could make staying insured harder for more than 1 million people in Los Angeles County, as many enrollees take on work reporting requirements and more frequent eligibility checks.
For families already juggling jobs, child care, housing instability, and medical needs, the biggest risk may not be becoming ineligible. It could simply be missing the paperwork needed to stay covered.
Here’s what to know
According to the Long Beach Post, starting Jan. 1, many Medi-Cal enrollees ages 19 to 64 will need to log 80 hours a month in a job, volunteer work, school, or job training, or otherwise document income, to keep their coverage.
