Seemingly relentless hurricane swells have battered Southern California in recent months, eroding beaches before an El Niño winter even begins. Yet another round is due this week.
Energetic waves are expected to hit the coastline from Santa Barbara to San Diego on Tuesday through Friday, raising the risk of more coastal flooding and erosion. This week’s rough seas, from distant Hurricane Rachel, will be particularly dangerous because they coincide with an extreme heat warning for the beaches, where high temperatures are forecast to be in the 90s.
