Illegal Puppy Sale Spurs Push to Explicitly Ban Animal Sales on Venice Boardwalk

VENICE – An attempted puppy sale on Venice’s Ocean Front Walk ended with the seller arrested on an outstanding felony warrant and the puppy placed in a permanent home, Councilmember Traci Park said. Now, Park wants to make one point unmistakable on the Boardwalk: animals cannot be bought or sold there.

Park’s motion, introduced Oct. 2, would add Ocean Front Walk to the Los Angeles Municipal Code’s list of locations where animal sales and purchases are prohibited. The measure, seconded by Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, is pending before the Arts, Parks, and City Facilities Committee.

“While we already have a zero tolerance policy for animal abuse or trafficking on our boardwalk, I introduced a motion expressly forbidding the sale of animals on Oceanfront, adding new signs and asking LAPD and Animal Services to consider reforming their illegal animal sales task force,” said Councilwoman Traci Park. “Protecting public safety and public spaces means protecting animals too.”…
