The overpromised, over-budget Automated People Mover project has become a flashpoint in the tight race for Los Angeles mayor as a video clip appears to show electrical explosions along its tracks.
The automated electric train system, now called LAX SkyLink, aims to connect LAX terminals with Metro and move passengers around the airport without having to rely on cars or shuttle buses. It was originally scheduled to be ready in 2023 before its opening was pushed back repeatedly, most recently to February 2027.
