Burglars arrested after 9-hour standoff inside Culver City business

Two burglars who police say broke into a Culver City business through its roof were arrested after an hourslong standoff that lasted into Monday morning.

The break-in took place at a business on the 5000 block of Uplander Way.

Culver City police responded around 10:20 p.m. Sunday for a report of a security alarm being activated. Officers quickly determined that the suspects had gotten into the business through the roof and sounds from inside seemed to indicate they were trying to break into a safe.

Police dispatched a drone to the scene and determined that two people were still inside the business despite the presence of police.

Around 11:30 p.m., one suspect was taken into custody, although the details of that arrest were not specified.

The second burglar, however, refused to surrender and barricaded himself inside the business he had just tried to rob.

For hours police tried to de-escalate the situation and get the man to come out. On Monday, more than ten hours after the initial call, the standoff came to a conclusion and the man surrendered peacefully.
