Disgraced former Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar (D) has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for his participation in rampant corruption that saw him receive around $1.5 million worth of bribes during his tenure in office.

Former Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar (D) will now be spending 13 years behind bars for taking numerous bribes over the course of his 15 years in office, including a $500,000 bribe from real estate developer David Lee, The Los Angeles Times reports.
Huizar’s sentence was handed down last Friday by U.S. District Court Judge John F. Walter, who also ordered him to pay the City of Los Angeles $440,000 in restitution and the IRS $39,000.
From 2005 to 2020, Huizar reportedly received around $1.5 million worth of bribes from primarily real estate developers, with the bribes including cash, gambling chips, luxury hotel visits, political contributions, prostitute services, expensive meals, and more.
