After a brief break from rain, another atmospheric river storm will be moving into Southern California Sunday. The storm is expected to be stronger and slower (meaning it will last longer), leading to flooding risks, heavy mountain snow and strong winds.

called the weather system “the largest storm of the season” and is expecting the storm to have “dangerous, even life-threatening impacts.”

When will it rain in Southern California?

The rain will move into the Southern California region as early as Saturday evening and is expected to last into Tuesday and Wednesday. The storm system could produce 48 hours of continuous rain.

  • 6 p.m. Saturday: Some showers move into Ventura County, maybe even some snow in the mountain areas.
  • 5 a.m. Sunday: Light to moderate showers move into Los Angeles and Orange counties.
  • 12 p.m. Sunday: Heavier rain, maybe some lightning strikes across Los Angeles and Orange counties. Some showers reach San Bernardino County.
  • 11 p.m. Sunday: Heavy rain continues to move through Southern California.
  • Monday into Tuesday: The storm continues to push through the region dumping rain and snow. Flooding is a major concern with this storm system.
