A 60-year-old man who was sailing from California to Hawaii was lost, and the U.S. Coast Guard requested assistance from sailors on Friday.
The Coast Guard announced in a press release that Noel Rubio departed Long Beach on December 28 aboard the 32-foot (9.7-meter) yacht Malulani. Three weeks later, he was going to arrive at Kaneohe, on the island of Oahu.
His last telephone communication was on December 28th, near Catalina Island in California.
Despite issuing urgent maritime information broadcasts and scanning harbors in California, Hawaii, and Mexico, the government has not been able to locate him.
Rubio uses a VHF-FM marine band radio as his main means of contact while on board the Malulani.
The Coast Guard is requesting that anybody who sees the vessel or Rubio send any information to rescue and coordination centers in Honolulu or Alameda, California.
In order for authorities to locate those in need of rescue, the Coast Guard advises sailors traveling over open waters to have various means of contact, such as radios, satellites, and electronic location radio beacons.
