The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) plans to set up DUI checkpoints and patrols. The checkpoints will be at Pacific Coast Highway and Figueroa Street, and Whittier Boulevard and Fresno Street on Thursday, February 8 from 6 PM to 11 PM. Another checkpoint will be at Van Nuys Boulevard and Vanowen Street on Friday, February 9, during the same hours.

On Saturday, February 10, patrols will be from 4 PM to 12 AM in the Hollenbeck area and from 6 PM to 2 AM in the South Bureau. On Sunday, February 11, patrols will be from 12 PM to 8 PM in the Van Nuys area. The LAPD notes that checkpoint locations may change or be cancelled.

These locations were chosen based on data of crashes and arrests related to impaired driving. The aim of these checkpoints and patrols is to educate drivers about the dangers of DUI and remove suspected impaired drivers from the road.

The LAPD reminds the public that impaired driving isn’t only due to alcohol. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and even legal substances like marijuana can affect driving. Despite its legal status, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
