2 arrested in deadly Wilmington shooting

Two suspects have been arrested in the shooting death of a man last summer following an event at the Wilmington Recreation Center, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Wednesday.

Jose Quezada, 46, of Carson was fatally shot about 10 p.m. on July 27, 2023, after a “Summer Night Lights” event at the recreation center in the 300 block of North Neptune Avenue, where he was a volunteer, the LAPD said.

Details of the arrests were expected to be released at a news conference on Thursday morning at the LAPD Harbor Area Community Police Station in San Pedro.

Quezada was killed as he was leaving the event at the recreation center, according to police. The suspects were described only as males wearing dark clothing.

“Our victim, who was a cook here, just exited and was here on the street when he was approached by unknown suspects who fired rounds at him,” LAPD Capt. Keith Green told KTLA5 following the crime. “Our victim was struck by gunfire.”
