The phrase “the devil is in the details” is often used to describe situations that seem simple but have important elements when you take a closer look.
That same thought can be applied to Kobe Bryant’s first statue outside of Crypto.com Arena.
The Lakers unveiled the first of three Kobe statues outside “The House That Kobe Built” on Thursday night in Los Angeles, honoring the former NBA star who died tragically in 2020 during a helicopter crash. Bryant spent his entire career playing for the Lakers where he accumulated five NBA titles, two NBA Finals MVPs, one NBA MVP, and 18 All-Star selections. Not only is he one of the greatest to ever don the purple and gold, but he is also one of the legends of the sport.
“Leave the game better than you found it, and when it comes time for you to leave, leave a legend,” Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, said at the ceremony. “And that he did.”
Bryant was a ride-or-die Laker who spent all 20 years with the organization. In return for what he brought on and off the court in Los Angeles, the Lakers honored him with a piece of art that is filled with all sorts of intricate elements that many wouldn’t immediately notice.
