A community group wants the city of Los Angeles to be fined more than $6 million for failing to clean up homeless camps.
The L.A. Alliance for Human Rights, a coalition of residents and business owners in L.A., is seeking court-ordered sanctions of $6.4 million.
The group accuses the city of “repeatedly missed deadlines and negotiated in bad faith” over terms of the settlement agreement to clean up camps in Highland Park and Skid Row, according to the L.A. Times .
The coalition filed a lawsuit in 2020, claiming that the local government was not doing enough to tackle the homeless crisis.
In September 2023, county officials agreed to provide an additional 3,000 beds for those dealing with homelessness as well as mental health and substance abuse by the end of 2026.
