Another storm expected to hit SoCal

Another storm is expected to hit Southern California, with the strongest impacts expected beginning Sunday, according to the National Weather Service Los Angeles.

Two to five inches of rain is expected, while eight inches is expected in the mountains. Forecasters are also predicting wind gusts of 30 to 50 miles per hours.

“These are the kind of moments we worry about because even though it’s been warm for the past few days, there’s still all that moisture in the ground from the storms earlier in the month,” Dr. Josh West, an Earth Sciences professor at USC, told KNX News’ Jon Baird.

Dr. West added that it could also lead to more mudslides.

“If these upcoming storms are as intense as, as some of the forecasts suggest they might be that could dump a lot of water on soil that’s already wet underground,” he said. “And that’s a recipe for more mudslides. So it is a worry.”

He said people living in the mountains and foothills should be prepared, and consider call in a geologist or another soil expert.
