Fleeing Couple Apprehended in Mexico for 10 Fwy Shooting

Authorities have arrested a couple in connection with a shooting that occurred on a freeway in East Los Angeles last December, which left two men injured.

As the aftermath of the shooting began to unfold, the suspects had already fled to Mexico, just ten days after they had left two men in critical condition.

Traffic on the eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway in Monterey Park was at a complete standstill for hours Tuesday morning as the California Highway Patrol investigated a car-to-car shooting that sent two men to the hospital in critical condition.

The couple, Lorraine Covarrubias, 23, and Robert Sarabia, 25, were arrested on February 21st in Mexico after fleeing the country following the shooting in December 2023.

In a collaborative effort with allied agencies, including the United States Border Patrol, CHP Mexico Liaison Unit, U.S. Marshals Task Force, and Mexican Authorities, the suspects were apprehended in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico, on February 21, 2024. They were subsequently extradited back to the United States via the San Ysidro Port of Entry and taken into custody by CHP personnel.
