SoCal Edison admits mistake in billing RPV customers amid forced shutoffs

Southern California Edison cut off power to more than 200 homes on the Palos Verdes Peninsula because of slow-moving landslides .

Yet, despite the forced shutoffs, some people say they are still being billed based on an average of their past monthly power consumption.

KNX News’ Emily Valdez spoke with one such customer who took matters into her own hands, saying, “I had to literally call them and cancel my power service.” Had she not done so, she said, “I would have gotten billed.”

Reggie Kumar is a spokesperson for SCE. He told KNX News, “Those customers should not have received bills. We realize they have been through a lot. It was an unacceptable mistake. We’re sorry.”

While Kumar did say the utility company would “make it right,” he did not offer any details on how they would do it.
