Victim dies from injuries after hanging onto stolen truck during Los Angeles pursuit

A victim who held onto the side of his stolen truck during a pursuit on Friday has died from his injuries, police revealed in an update on Monday.

The man, identified as a 59-year-old Los Angeles resident, fell off of the side of his box truck while the carjacking suspect, 33-year-old Bryan Rodriguez, led a police chase through South Los Angeles around noon Friday.

After falling, the Los Angeles Police Department said Rodriguez ran over him with the truck.

The 59-year-old was taken to the hospital where police initially said he was in serious condition but was later pronounced deceased.

Police arrested Rodriguez when the truck eventually stopped near Normandie and Vernon avenues, and booked him at the 77th Area Jail without bail.

The chase started when Rodriguez allegedly stole the white box truck while it was being used by the 59-year-old near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Buckingham Road.

The LAPD said the victim tried to intercede and hung onto the side of the truck as Rodriguez drove through South Los Angeles, warranting multiple 911 calls.
