The journalism community is mourning the unexpected loss of Chauncy Glover, a talented anchor and Emmy Award-winning journalist who died at the age of 39, according to CBS News, the parent company of KCAL/
Glover, who had recently joined the KCAL News Anchor Team in Los Angeles, was known for his exceptional reporting skills and dedication to community service.
Chauncy Glover’s illustrious career spanned multiple states and newsrooms. He joined KCAL in October 2023, where he co-anchored the 5 and 11 p.m. newscasts with Pat Harvey and shared the desk with Suzie Suh for the 8 and 10 p.m. broadcasts. Prior to his move to Los Angeles, Glover made history as the first Black male main anchor at KTRK in Houston, where he worked for eight years.
Throughout his career, Glover’s talent was recognized with multiple accolades, including three Emmy Awards. His journey in journalism began in Columbus, Georgia, and took him through Florida, Michigan, and Texas before he arrived in California.
Beyond his on-screen presence, Glover was deeply committed to community outreach. He founded The Chauncy Glover Project, a mentorship program that has made a significant impact on young lives. The initiative, which began in Detroit and later relocated to Houston, focused on empowering teenage boys and transforming them into upstanding gentlemen.The program’s success is evident in its achievements: more than 350 boys of color sent to college, over 1,000 young men mentored, and a focus on various aspects of personal development, including dressing for success, etiquette, and college readiness.
