Rumors posted on X by a Malibu blogger on Sunday claimed that Luna could step down due to health concerns, with “multiple sources” allegedly telling her the sheriff has Parkinson’s disease.

In a statement to the L.A. Times, Luna said the rumors were “not true.”

“No health issues. I will absolutely be running for re-election,” he said.

The union representing sheriff’s deputies also told the L.A. Times that union leaders had been hearing the “horrible rumors” for a week or more, and that Luna had told them they were false.

Luna was elected as head of the nation’s largest sheriff department in 2022 after winning more than 60% of the vote against former Sheriff Alex Villanueva.
