Famous California boulevard closing for 24 hours because of torrential weather conditions

Topanga Canyon Boulevard, a major route connecting Malibu to the San Fernando Valley, will be shut down for over 24 hours amid concerns that high winds could spark another wildfire. Caltrans announced that State Route 27 will be closed from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday between Mulholland Drive and Pacific Coast Highway.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be checking IDs, allowing only residents and business owners access. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Los Angeles and Ventura counties due to strong Santa Ana winds, gusting up to 65 mph. This follows last week’s Franklin Fire, which destroyed 20 homes near Malibu.
