Package thief admits he targeted Lakewood during arrest

Officers announced the arrest of a man who was caught on camera stealing packages from Lakewood residences during the holiday season.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lakewood Station posted a video on Instagram with footage from the arrest that included a brief interaction between an officer and the suspect.

In the video, filmed by the interrogating officer, the suspect is handcuffed in the back of a law enforcement vehicle as the officer asks if he knows what he stole.

“I got two packages,” the suspect replied. “It was a nice neighborhood.”

LASD said it was thanks to a resident who witnessed the theft and called it in that deputies were able to quickly find the man and recover the stolen items from inside his car.

The suspect, whose face is blurred in the social media video, has not yet been publicly identified by authorities.

Upon further searching the man’s car and his person, the department said that deputies also found items that were stolen from a nearby TJ Maxx as well as suspected methamphetamine.
