California bill that would make it illegal to defend yourself pulled

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – A law proposed by a Los Angeles County-area assemblymember that would have changed what qualifies as self-defense , eliminating circumstances such as defending your home or property, has been pulled, according to Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher.

In an announcement Thursday morning, Gallagher said that AB-1333 was pulled earlier that day “because of the pressure that we called out – and because of the public calling out, District Attorneys calling out.”

Assemblymember David Tangipa, whose area covers sections of Northern California, including Fresno County, Mariposa County, and Madera County, previously described the proposed legislation as part of a “criminal-first agenda” in an interview at the end of February.

In Thursday’s press conference, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher described the pulling of the proposed legislation as stopping “yet another bad public safety measure from moving forward.”…
