LOS ANGELES – The fallout over how billions of dollars have been misspent on homelessness in Los Angeles is growing, and community groups are asking to have a voice. In a recent letter, the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils (WRAC) said this is exactly the kind of accountability they’ve been pushing for- and they’re on standby to help.
Back in December 2024, WRAC formally asked for an investigation into corruption and misuse of funds tied to the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles. That call came just months before it was revealed in a federal audit that the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) had more than $2 billion in unaccounted funds .
The audit, prompted by a lawsuit from the LA Alliance for Human Rights , also found that County officials weren’t fully cooperating-repeatedly handing over incomplete or unreadable documents until eventually being ordered to comply .
